It has been a belief that the shape of Rahu and Ketu is quite similar to that of a serpent. It is also one of the reasons why their significance in determining the nature of Kaalsarp Dosh in a person’s birth chart takes paramount importance. Amongst the twelve types of kaalsarp dosh that have been defined in our scriptures, The Karkotak Kaalsarp Dosh needs a special discussion mostly because of the fact that the name Karkotak has found place in many fables of ‘Hindu mythology’. Like many other black serpents, Karkotak has been considered to be very dangerous and lethal.

Causes and Influences:

The relative position of Rahu and Ketu to cause Karkotak Kaalsarp Dosh is such that Rahu occupies the eighth house also known as the house of rebirth or regeneration and Ketu occupies the second house which is the house of money and possessions. The other planets encircle among themselves between these two houses. Quite naturally, it affects a person’s income and his personal life to a great extent.

Karkotak Kaalsarp Dosh affects the family relations of a person to a great extent. Difference in opinion always prevails with relatives. Lack of mutual coordination often leads to backstabbing and deceit from family members. Many a times the person faces situations where nearly completed works are ruined. Heavy financial losses are inflicted and the person is rendered helpless from all directions. Family and livelihood of the person are interrupted from time to time. The chances of accidents and various health problems increase. Moreover, women suffering from this dosh often complaint about their maternity issues, delay in bearing child being common among those complaints. Conspiracy among the trusted people is something one needs to look out for as it might be a reason for a complete destruction of one’s personal and professional life.

Remedies:

Mythology dictates that ‘Karkotak Nag’ was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. In the district of Ujjain, a temple by the name of ‘Karkoteshwar Mahadeva’ exists. It is a belief that proper worship of Lord Shiva in this temple helps greatly in curing the side effects of Karkotak Kaalsarp Dosh. Reciting the ‘panchakshari mantra’ and offering milk and pure water in the worship of Lord Shiva in this temple has been considered very pious. Also, worshipping the Lord on days of ‘Nag Panchami’ and ‘Maha shiv ratri’ is also considered very effective in reducing the malefic effects of Kaalsarp Dosh.

It is very important to understand that Kaalsarp dosh (Karkotak Kaalsarp Dosh in particular), is not the beginning of a life-long chain of fierce problems for a person. Attributes like patience, loyalty, honesty etc. are very important if someone wants to stay out of the radar of the consequences inflicted by the dosh.

Bad decision-making, anger are traits that can destroy a person’s chance to even mend the mistakes he has made or is likely to make. It must be clearly understood that a good astrologer and a proper thinking is all one needs to get rid of this dosh, else otherwise, the consequences can be as good as lethal.
